Canada has come up with the 2022-2024 Immigration Plan, which is quoted as ambitious and expected to strengthen the industries and communities along with reviving the Canadian economy and fuelling growth after the pandemic.
Continuing last year’s trend, Canada is hoping to fill in thousands of positions that need to be filled in a coming couple of years. To fill critical labour market gaps and build up a strong economy, the country expects to continue to welcome immigrants at a rate of 1% of the Canadian population. By modernizing the immigration processes, reducing backlogs, and increasing the processing times, Canada is hoping to achieve the set immigration targets. The aim is also to increase Francophone immigration outside Quebec to 4.4% by 2023. Here is the target for new immigrant landings: 431,645 permanent residents in 2022; 447,055 permanent residents by 2023; and around 451,000 permanent residents are expected to land I 2024.
